Rodney Mac Wallentine

Rodney Mac Wallentine, 82, of Paris, Idaho, returned home to his Father in heaven August 5th, 2025, with loving family members by his side.  

Rodney was preceded in death by his loving wife, Verla Hansen Wallentine, of nearly 60 years as well as his parents, Charles Archibald Wallentine and Ruth Peterson Wallentine.  He was preceded in death by his two siblings, Yvonne Wallentine Derricott and Cloyd C. Wallentine.

Rodney learned to appreciate hard work while helping on his dad’s ranch.  He attended Fielding High School and made many lifelong friends with his basketball teammates and coaches.

He served as an LDS missionary in the Netherlands where he enjoyed success, affirmed his own testimony, and returned with a deeper love of the gospel and those he taught.  Upon his return home, Rodney attended Ricks College, and soon after married Verla Hansen.  They were blessed with five children: Liesje, Curtis, Terry, Nicole, and Chris.

Rodney’s work career spanned over 35 years at Monsanto in Soda Springs, Idaho in the accounting department.  After retiring from Monsanto, he accepted an appointment and was then re-elected as Bear Lake County Treasurer.  He served as Idaho commissioner for the Bear River Commission and held various roles in the operation of Bear Lake Land and Livestock.  He also served as a councilman for the City of Paris. 

Rodney and Verla loved to travel, especially by motorcycle.  Accompanied by dear friends, their trips took them through Canada and the U.S.  In later years they enjoyed the “snowbird” lifestyle in Nevada and Arizona.  

Rodney’s lifelong church service included ward bishop, stake secretary, Sunday School teacher, and Primary teacher.  He and Verla served an 18-month mission in the Washington, D.C temple.  

Rodney was a devoted husband, father, and friend.

A viewing will be held prior to funeral services on Saturday, August 16th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 109 S Main St., Paris, Idaho.  A viewing will be at 12:00-1:45 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
