Michael Don Erickson passed away at his home in Raeford, NC on July 11, 2023 following a brief illness. He was 79 years old.
Michael was born in Logan, UT on February 24, 1944 to Donald and Wilma Nelson Erickson. He was the second of five children. He graduated from Fielding High School in 1962.
Upon his graduation, Michael joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 20 years, including a tour in Vietnam. Following his Air Force career, he went to work for General Electric Aircraft Engine Division for 18 years. At the conclusion of that career, he became an over the road truck driver, which is something he had wanted to do since he was a little boy. Once he got that out of his system, he became a school bus driver for the New Braunfels Independent School District in New Braunfels, TX.
Michael enjoyed many activities throughout his life, among them were hunting, fishing and bowling. His favorite activity, however, was rodeo. He competed in Bareback Riding and Bull Riding. He rodeoed in and around Utah and Idaho, and while stationed in Germany with the American Rodeo Club. He was especially proud that his two sons Mike and Bill were each Oklahoma State High School Rodeo Champions. He was equally proud of his daughter Rose for the service she gave to her country while serving in the United States Army.
Michael was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was passionate about sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. As a member of the Church, he held several callings, his favorite and most special one being a Temple worker in the Albuquerque New Mexico Temple.
Michael met his wife, Susanne in 2002 and they were married on October 3, 2003. Their marriage was solemnized in the San Antonio Texas Temple on December 4, 2010. Together they are the proud parents of a combined 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Family being the most important to them, they enjoyed traveling as often as they could to visit their families. They also enjoyed traveling to the East Coast to attend yearly get togethers with his old Air Force buddies.
Michael is survived by his wife, Susanne (Pacheco) Erickson of the home, his daughter Rose (Randy) Robinson of North Carolina, sons Mike and Bill Erickson of Oklahoma, stepdaughters Jodi Metz and Jennifer Caperton of New Mexico, sisters Annette Wallentine and Judy (Doran) Smith both of Idaho, Peggy (Dave) Everton of Lehi, UT and brother Kim (Cindy) Erickson of Idaho, his grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Wilma Erickson and his in laws Myrt and Harry Snowden.
Services will be held on Tuesday July 18, 2003 at the Stake Center in Paris, Idaho beginning at 11:15 am. Burial will follow at the Fish Haven Cemetery in Fish Haven, Idaho.
