LaWana Stevens, beloved wife, mother grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and treasured friend returned to her Heavenly Home in the early morning hours of September 30, 2023, passing peacefully with her loved ones gathered. LaWana was born October 8, 1942, in Rupert, Idaho to Rosie Ellen Simpson and Clarence Lashbrook (Bud) Eldredge. She was raised from age eight by her mother and new father, Benjamin Tovey Ashby. She met the love of her life, Jerry Ross Stevens, at the tender age of six, began dating at fourteen and married in the Idaho Falls, Idaho temple on December 20, 1963, at age twenty-one. From October 1964 to March 1983, Jerry & LaWana became parents to ten children. They lived the first fifteen years of their marriage in Middleton, Idaho, near both sets of parents and many family members. In 1978, they moved to Cascade, Idaho where all ten children graduated high school. As empty-nesters, Jerry & LaWana balanced two ranches, one in Cascade and the other in Ovid, Idaho where they settled in 2015. LaWana has been an anchor for her family all her life. She leaves behind her beloved husband Jerry, children Lane, Jeanette, Bryce (Krista), Sondra (Craig), Rose (Mike), Tammy (Tom), Ross (Lorena), Shane (Chelsea), Christine (Larry), and Corrine (Matt). 63 grandchildren (31 spouses), 49 and counting great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren by adoption. She also leaves siblings Joyce (David), Larry (Debbie), Ben (Vicky), Allen (Annette), and spouses of siblings Karen and Dave, as well as dozens of cherished nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Preceding LaWana in death are her parents, sisters Corrine and Crystal, brother David, daughter-in-law Maryanne McLellan Stevens, and grandson Samuel Wold. LaWana has always had a loving, tender heart and the ability to find goodness in those around her. She was known for her welcoming home, selfless service to all, and her dedication to Heavenly Father. She supported her children and grandchildren in their goals and dreams, always had a listening ear for all those with struggles, and was the most gracious recipient of any gift, great or small. We invite you to celebrate her life with us at her services. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 26 from 6-8PM and Friday morning, October 27 from 9- 10:45AM, with funeral services following at 11AM.
