JoAn (Sparks) Koeven

JoAn Sparks Koeven, 92, of Dingle, Idaho passed away suddenly on October 9, 2023, at her home in Dingle, Idaho.

JoAn was born in Dingle, Idaho in her Grandma Edith Nowland’s house on July 22, 1931, to Elliott and Mona Sparks. She was the 4th out of 11 children. She attended elementary school in Dingle Elementary in Dingle, Idaho. JoAn went on to graduate from Montpelier High School in Montpelier, Idaho.

JoAn met her husband, Keith Koeven, and they were later married on May 29, 1951, in Montpelier, Idaho. Keith and JoAn were later sealed in the Logan Temple on July 1, 1988. They lived in Montpelier for a short time, later moving to Dingle, where they lived in an older two - room home, until they built their present home out of the old Wardboro School after the school was torn down. This is where they raised their three children, Eddie, Kory and Wendy Ann. They were greatly saddened when Wendy died at 18 months old. Her husband, Keith, passed away on September 8, 1986.

She worked at First Security Bank while Keith was deployed to Korea for the US Army. JoAn then worked as a secretary for Van Gas Propane and then Suburban Propane for many years, where she met many friends.

JoAn loved singing in the Chordbusters singing group for many years. She enjoyed bowling, where she enjoyed many years of bowling on the leagues. JoAn liked playing Penocle with her friends and family. She also loved to ride with Darla in the truck to spray mosquitoes every summer. She had many friends and loved to meet with them regularly. But, most of all, she loved her family.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. She held many positions in the church during her life, which she enjoyed very much. JoAn was presently Assistant Ward Librarian in the Dingle Ward.

JoAn is survived by her sons, Eddie (Paula) and Kory (Marsha), grandsons Brian and Chad Koeven, and great-grandchildren Rena and Robby Koeven. She is also survived by her brothers, Mardell (Dixie), Alan Dale – Pudge, and her sisters Sandra Hartley and Darla (Lynn) Lloyd.

JoAn was preceded in death by her parents, Elliott and Mona Sparks, her husband, Keith and daughter, Wendy Ann. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Melba and (Doneal) Johnson, and Helen Sparks, her brothers Elliot Eugene – Rusty – Sparks, Deon and (Gloria) Sparks, John – Jackie – and (Margean) Sparks, her sister Georgia Carol Sparks, and brother-in-law Paul Hartley.

Graveside services will be held on October 16, 2023, in Dingle, Idaho. A viewing will be held at the Dingle Ward church from 10:00 to 11:30 and the Graveside Services at 12:00 noon. JoAn will be laid to rest in the Dingle Cemetery.
