Doris Hymas Obituary

Doris Teuscher Hymas was born on July 22, 1935, in Montpelier, Idaho, and passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2023.

Doris was raised in Montpelier, Idaho and was the youngest of three children born to John H. and Gertrude Lewis Teuscher. She had an older brother, Lewis J. and an older sister, Norinne. She attended school in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1953.

She also married her husband, Keith V. Hymas in the Logan LDS Temple on March 23, 1953, just before she graduated, since he was #1 on the draft register and would be called up during the Korean conflict at any time. However, he wasn't drafted until October 1953, and he spent the next two years in the US Army.  Except for the time spent in the service, they lived in Montpelier their entire lives.

Doris and Keith were blessed to spend 65 years together before he passed away in 2018. Sons Neil, Corey, and Troy joined the family during this time.

Doris helped her parents in their grocery store from the time she was 12 years old until she started working for Tri State Bank in 1968. She continued to work there for 30 years until she retired.  After a few years of retirement, she missed having something to do and missed people, so she volunteered at the Bear Lake Hospital.  In 2008 at the age of 73, she rejoined the Bear Lake Hospital Auxiliary and started volunteering a few hours during lunch time in the hospital.  She loved the people she worked with and those that she met while she was working.

Doris’s family came first. When her boys were young, she spent much time with her family camping, hunting, and doing outdoor activities. She supported her husband and boys in many hobbies, scout work, sports, and school and church activities. She enjoyed getting together with family and friends at their cabin in the hills above Liberty, Idaho.

She acquired a passion for the game of golf. You could almost always find her on a course somewhere. She spent many trips with her friends traveling to Jackson, Utah, Arizona and Nevada. She continued her parents’ tradition of teaching and taking her grandchildren golfing as they grew up around her. She even traveled several summers taking a granddaughter on junior golf tours and state finals.

Doris was blessed with many friends during her life and enjoyed spending time with them golfing, shopping, traveling, and of course, lunching at Studebaker’s every Wednesday for the past several years. She often commented on how much she enjoyed their company.

Doris was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She worked as a Cub Scout Leader, in the Young Women's Presidency, and as a teacher. Most important to her was the time she spent as a typist for her husband, who was the Stake Patriarch.  She also worked for two years with her husband as Temple Officiators in the Logan Temple.

She was preceded in death by her husband Keith, son Corey, her parents, both siblings, and two brother-in-laws.  She is survived by her sons, Neil (Betty), Cokeville, Wyoming, and Troy (Teresa), Montpelier, Idaho, 17 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
