Carol Erickson Obituary

Carol Nield Erickson, 85, of Montpelier, Idaho passed away at home on July 21, 2019.

She was born February 24, 1934 in Montpelier, Idaho to William and Viola Nield , the fourth child of a family of ten children. As a child she grew up in this peaceful valley spending her time playing baseball, cowboys and Indians, and other tomboy activities.

Her teen years were spent more seriously, providing care for her grandma Laughter and helping her own mother raise a large family.

She married John Fred Esquibel Feb. 29, 1952 who was serving in the U.S. Airforce and enjoyed the opportunity to travel and live in many locations in and out of the states. Her first son, John, was born in Montpelier, her only daughter Ramona, was born in Savannah, Georgia, and her youngest son, Scott, was born in Ashiya, Japan. She loved meeting people and making friends wherever she lived and traveled.

At the age of 25, she came back home, to Montpelier, as a single mom and dedicated her life to raising and providing for her three children. She served her children and all those around her tirelessly. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and through the years served in many capacities including five Relief Society presidencies, twice as president. She was sealed to her children in the Logan temple and sets great faith in eternal families. One of her greatest joys in life was seeing her three children and spouses married in the temple.

She worked her life in this community as an employee of  Haddocks IGA, Broulim’s, and at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide. Even her hobbies were a form of work and service as she spent many hours quilting with the hospital auxiliary. She loved making quilts and made one for each grandchild at their marriage.  Other hobbies included painting, crocheting, golfing, gardening, and canning produce and fruit – especially her raspberry jam.

Carol is survived by her three children. John (Nancy) Esquibel of Pocatello, Ramona (Ron) Rowland of Montpelier, Scott (Alisha) Esquibel of Montpelier, twenty grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brothers Kenneth Nield, Tom Nield, and sister Maxine Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Max Nield, Carl Nield, Terry Nield. Sisters Gloria Shannon, Lannette Roberts, and Belva Bagley, and one grandson, Brad Esquibel.
