Wayne John Transtrum's Obituary

On January 18, 2017, Wayne John Transtrum passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. Wayne was born on March 13, 1929 in San Diego, California to Whitney John Transtrum and Hazel Gardner Transtrum. He had two older brothers, Daurel (deceased) and Merrill. He attended Wilson Elementary in St. Charles, ID and graduated from Fielding High in Paris, ID. He graduated from seminary and high school in 1947. In 1949, he married Vermilla Eborn of Paris, ID in the Logan, UT Temple. They became the parents of six sons. Wayne worked many jobs while raising his family. He was employed by Central Farms in Georgetown, Clyde Construction building the highway through St. Charles, and for Olif Nielson Construction Co. at Mirror Lake. He also worked for the Forest Service and rode for the Cattle Association. Wayne was working for Utah Power and Light at Camp Lifton when he decided to hire out on the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked as an engineer. He retired in 1991. Wayne loved cows and horses so they had a ranch below St. Charles where they eventually built a home that was filled with good memories of hard work and love. Wayne is survived by his wife Vermilla and his six sons; Bradley Wayne (Marsha) of Bennington, ID, Kenneth E. (Luann) of Morgan, UT, Glenn John (Linda), Clair L. (Stacey), Monte Kay (Leisa), Todd Whitney (Lisa) all of St. Charles, ID. 25 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and his brother Merrill Transtrum. There will be a viewing Monday, January 23, at the Schwab-Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier, ID from 6:00-8:00 p.m. There will also be a viewing on Tuesday, January 24 from 10:00-11:45 a.m. at the St. Charles Ward church house followed by the funeral at 12:00 noon.
