Udean Shorter
Udean S. Shorter passed away at his home in Osmond on February 16, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Dean was born December 21, 1939 to Frank and Delpha Shorter at their home in Auburn. The family later moved to Afton.
Dean attended school in Afton and spent one year in Tooele, Utah where his dad worked at the U.S. Army Depot. Dean graduated from Star Valley High School in 1958.
After graduation, Dean went into partnership with his dad. They purchased the creamery building in Osmond and started the Frank Shorter and Son Auto Salvage business. They bought and sold scrap metal and game hides for many years. Dean also worked the Jackson Lake Lodge one summer with his dad and brother Sherrill.
Dean moved to Montpelier, Idaho for a time and worked as a mechanic for Hansen Chevrolet. It was while he was living in Montpelier that he met Sally Price from Geneva, Idaho. They were married July 16, 1964 in the Logan LDS Temple in Logan, Utah.
They made their home in the creamery in Osmond where Dean lived all the remaining years of his life.
They have four children: Lori Ann, Sandra Dean, Jason David, and Michael D. His children and grandchildren brought a lot of happiness to his life.
Dean helped survey the land for Star Valley Ranch. He worked as a mechanic for Star Studs Saw Mill and as a maintenance worker for the Star Valley Swiss Cheese Factory in Thayne. He also built Polaris snowmobiles and worked at the airplane factory.
Dean operated the Star Valley Steel and Supply business at this place in Osmond. He worked in his shop doing welding and repair work. He manufactured the Fisher wood burning stoves and had the western Wyoming distributorship.
Dean enjoyed going hunting in the fall along with snowmobiling and cross country skiing. He'd take the family camping in the summer at Granite Hot Springs and swimming at Bear Lake in Idaho. He spent a lot of time at their homestead property up Coal Creek on the South End.
Dean and Sally traveled to Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota, Yellowstone Park and Cody on their Honda Goldwing road bike. They took bike trips all through Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah with friends from Montpelier. Dean always enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Dean was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. He was a home teacher, ward membership clerk, Sunday school teacher, and scout leader.
He is survived by his wife Sally, Osmond. Daughters, Lori Ann Shorter, St. George; Sandra Dean Jacobson, Osmond; sons, Michael D. Shorter, Osmond; brother Sherrill (Jeraldine) Shorter, Orem, Utah; Sisters, Marla (Farrell) Hutchings, Springville, Utah; LaRene (Mike) Moschetti, Elko, Nevada/ Renae Anast, Eagle Mountain, Utah; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son Jason and his parents Frank and Delpha Shorter.
