Richard Colvin was born on October 13, 1948. It was a Wednesday, but Richard would have
loved for it to have been a Friday. He was born to Helen Ford and Ted Colvin, and spent many
of his younger years running amok through the orchards and fields in California. Richard always
loved anything with a motor and loved haunting the racetracks and drag strips wherever he
lived. His greatest regret in life was not being able to finish restoring his 1976 Ford Pinto station
wagon hot rod.
Richard studied diesel mechanics at ISU, where he met his future wife Beverly Brown. Beverly
always swore he tricked her because she went on a blind date with him and he introduced
himself as “Rich”. They were married for 26 years and had 5 children. Beverly passed away in
2000.
Richard had a fondness for things that go “boom” which he probably acquired during his time in
the Marine Corps serving in artillery. He served in the Marine Corps from 1967 to 1970 and
survived his tour in Vietnam. He later joined the Air Force where he served from 1973 to 1981.
While the 4th of July was always a hit with Richard (because of things that go boom) he also
very much admired Burt Gummer from the 1990 movie “Tremors” and will forever be
remembered for asking WWBGD. Richard loved watching movies with his family because they
were all jumpy and good for at least a shriek or two during scary shows, something he found
hilarious.
Although not perfect, Richard was a good man and his family will miss him dearly.
Richard is survived by his children, Matt Colvin (Marissa) of Montpelier, Bethany George (Merle)
of Idaho Falls, Stefany Vaughn (Chance) of Idaho Falls, Rebekah Brinkerhoff (Joel) of Idaho
Falls, and Rochell Colvin (Erich Berryman) of Worland, WY, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Trevor Jacobson and Bear Lake Memorial Home Health for their kindness, dedication, and exceptional care.
