Phillis Martin Lindford's Obituary

Phillis Martin Lindford

Phillis Martin Linford passed away on June 28, 2012 at the age of 88, after being homebound for nearly seven years. She was born July 4, 1923 as the 12th of 14 children born to Joseph Maroni and Sarah Ann Hutchinson Martin, in Hilliard, Wyoming. Phillis' mother died when Phillis was six-years-old, so her older sisters took care of the younger children. Phillis grew up in Hilliard and graduated from Evanston High School. She married Carwin H. Linford in the Salt Lake LDS?Temple on June 18, 1945. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She graduated from Utah State University when she was 40-years-old and began teaching in the Star Valley Elementary School. She taught for 21 years. Phillis had the reputation of being a tough teacher who made kids work, but that was appreciated by many parents. She had a lot of empathy for students who found learning difficult and was always willing to go the extra mile to help them. Phillis' hobbies included crocheting, oil painting, scratch art, gardening, reading and cooking. She was an excellent homemaker and cook and was immaculate in the care of her home. She leaves a posterity of five children; Donley (Lorna), Evanston; Alan (Linda), Afton; Lynette Cornia (Richard), Malad, Idaho; Robert (Linda), Afton; Jo Ann Galloway (Ron), Afton; 23 grandchildren and 65 great grandchildren.
