Nola Florence
(Ipsen) Jones
June 14, 1931 – November 22, 2024
Nola Florence Ipsen Jones, 93, died November 22, 2024 of natural causes at her home in Montpelier, Idaho. She was living independently as an active member of her community up to the hour of her passing.
Born June 14, 1931, in Bennington, Idaho, she closed a life full of accomplishment where she spread love and goodwill among family, friends and even strangers everywhere she went. Her positive and friendly personality, selfless service and indomitable spirit won her the love and respect of many in the Bear Lake Valley area and beyond.
Nola loved her many friends and was known for her loyalty and dependability to all of them. She gathered new friends wherever she went and always stopped to notice and talk with children everywhere.
She was beloved by her family members who she loved and served unselfishly throughout her life. That service, remarkably, included supporting her son on a two-year church mission when he departed the same month she lost her husband, Rex, to a heart attack and donating a kidney to her daughter, Marsha, when her own were destroyed by a catastrophic disease in her teens.
An avid golfer, Nola played for fun and in tournaments for decades and was a regular fixture at the Montpelier Municipal Golf Course. She golfed outdoors regularly up through age 90, and from the couch in her living room as a loyal and vocal Golf Channel fan over the past few years.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, she served in various roles and was also an active volunteer throughout the community, serving a variety of civic and religious organizations.
Her professional life was varied and rich including experience as an executive secretary in the mining industry, an entrepreneur dress shop owner and real estate broker, and 19 years in government service culminating in an elected term as the Bear Lake County Treasurer.
She attended Bennington Elementary, Montpelier High School where she was an honors graduate in the class of 1949 and LDS Business College. She also attended Utah State University for her Real Estate License and graduated from the Realtor's Institute, Boise, ID, as a four-year graduate.
Nola was married October 12, 1957 to Rex Leo Jones who preceded her in death by 52 years. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, UT temple October 19, 1995.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Martin Lloyd Ipsen and Grace Ann Nebeker Ipsen; Brothers: Gordon Ipsen, Deward Ipsen, and recently, son-in-law, Kory Koeven.
Nola is Survived by her sister: Carolyn House, son, Chris Lloyd Jones (Lori) and daughter Marsha JoAnn Jones Koeven; four Granddaughters, Jessica (Ryan) Brown, Rachel (Jared) Snider, Sarah (Joel) Mellor, Christina (Matthew) Dickerson, fourteen great grandchildren, (including a name-sake Nola) and one great, great grandchild who she met this summer.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 30, at 10:30 AM preceded by a 9:30 AM viewing at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 485 S 7th Street, Montpelier, ID. Interment will follow at the Montpelier Cemetery. An additional viewing will be held Friday, November 29 from 6:00 until 7:30 at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary at 702 Clay Street, Montpelier, ID.
