Melvyn Leroy Bagley's Obituary

Melvyn Leroy Bagley, 76 passed away January 16, 2015 at VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born August 17, 1938 in Ortoise California. To Owen Elsworth and Evelyn Teuscher Bagley; He is the fourth of 7 children.

After a short stay in California, Owen moved his family to Vancouver Oregon to work at ship yards. After the war ended the family picked up and moved to Montpelier, Idaho, where Melvyn spent the rest of his life. Melvyn attended school at the Washington school Montpelier Jr. High and Montpelier High School as well. Melvyn was a member of the LDS church.

As a young man, Melvyn worked on his grandpa and uncle's farm and helped break horses for Charles Nicholls. With his cousin Jerry Glenn, they went to work on the rail road for a while. Melvyn's other employment was Central Farmers, Leif, Jerry Phelps and Bud Parker's service stations. Melvyn retired from Monsanto as a heavy equipment operator after 30 years of service. Melvyn was also a voluntary Police reserve officer for a short while.

Melvyn was drafted into the Army in 1961 where he was specialized as a Medic. After Melvyn was drafted, he married his high school sweetheart and eternal companion Frankie Sorenson on September 21, 1961 in the Logan LDS temple for all eternity. Soon after, he left his new bride for Germany for 2 years. Frankie did not go with him, instead she remained in Bear lake to work.

After a Honorable discharge from the Army, Melvyn return to a cute little house on Jefferson street in Montpelier that Frankie had found for them to start their lives. Soon a daughter Robyn Sue was born., next came Jeffery Owen was born and then Jarrin Dean.

Melvyn was a quiet man but a strong man. He was a prankster; Melvyn would sneak up behind you and poke you .. he would get a big kick out of it. Melvyn was a good man and would help everyone that he could. Melvyn will always be remembered as a good kind man. Melvyn was a hard worker and not afraid to do the job no matter what it called for.

Melvyn loved to play, especially fishing, hunting and camping. You would find him a lot on the Black Foot or the Palesades Reservoir fishing.

When he was in the Military, he was hit by lightning. From this, Melvyn was affected by cold weather and that was one reason why he headed to the warm weather of Arizona and of course to golf.

Melvyn and Frankie got a four wheeler and would ride around in the desert. Melvyn and Frankie had developed life long friends that were like family in Arizona. They would ride around with their good friends in the desert and in the mountains of Bear Lake .

One of Melvyn's greatest passions in life was golf. You would find him at sunrise with his friends and family and would play until sunset. Life was good when he got to work on the golf course in Preston and Montpelier.

Melvyn is survived by his wife Frankie Sue Sorenson Bagley (married 53 years) . One daughter Robyn Sue (Glenn) Sobel of New York. Two sons , Jeffery Owen (Cynthia) Bagley of Hyrum Utah, Jarrin Dean (Ronda) Bagley of Montpelier Utah, 10 grand children, and 10 great grand children. Two sisters Joyce Hemmert of St. Charles Idaho, Arlene (Lavor) Hemmert of Liberty Idaho, three brothers Rulon (Sylvia) Bagley of St. George Utah, Allen (Joanne) Bagley of Cedar City Utah, and Milton (Linda) Bagley of Derby Kansas. One sister-n-law Colleen McMurray Liberty Idaho.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grand parents and brother, Owen Mondell Bagley.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the Montpelier 5th ward chapel with a viewing prior to the services at 11:00 am to 12:45 pm. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
