Obituary

Mathew Martin Mast passed away on August 18, 2026, in Montpelier, Idaho, at the age of 77.

Martin was born on December 4, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Mathew Alvin “Al” and Maxine Mast. On September 9, 1967, he married Sarah in Elko, Nevada. Together, they built a life and family they loved, raising their two children, Mathew Martin Mast Jr “Abe” and Niki.

Martin was a hardworking man who believed in staying busy and lending a hand wherever one was needed. He worked for many years as a general contractor, building and remodeling numerous homes and commercial buildings leaving behind craftsmanship that will continue to stand as part of his legacy. In 2000, Martin moved to Idaho, where he began farming and embraced a life of hard work and the outdoors.

He loved hunting and fishing and could often be found woodworking, tending his garden, working on a project, or finding something that needed to be done. Sitting still simply wasn't in Martin's nature. He was always working with his hands, creating something, fixing something, or helping someone.

Of all the things Martin loved in his life, nothing compared to the love he had for his granddaughter, Cheyanne. No matter how busy he was or what needed to be done, he would stop everything to be there for her. He spent countless hours attending dance competitions, school events, and the many important moments in her life. Being her grandfather was one of his greatest joys, and his love and support for her were constant and unwavering.

Martin was the kind of man who was always willing to help. He worked hard, cared deeply for his family, and rarely slowed down. His generosity, dependability, craftsmanship, and devotion to those he loved will be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Maxine Mast, and his beloved wife, Sarah.

He is survived by his son, Abe; his daughter, Niki; his granddaughter, Cheyanne; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Martin's life will be held at a later date.
