Marie Call
Marie Pead Call passed away peacefully in Draper, Utah on Sept. 27, 2011, due to complications precipitated by a fall in her home.
Marie was born in Nov. 7, 1923, to Fredrick Budd and Henrietta Harmon Pead in Fairview. When Marie was eight years old her mother passed away, followed by her father when she was eleven.
The seven oldest Pead children (Budd, Loreen, Ballard, Marie, Elaine, Ray, and Bob) remained together in the family home. Cleo, the baby, went to live with relatives. Marie took on much responsibility for the care of her brother and sisters.
Marie married Spencer Papworth Call on Oct. 8, 1940, in the Logan Utah LDS Temple.
They lived the rest of their lives in the home they built in Afton. Marie cared for the house, maintained the yard, and grew a beautiful garden for 71 years.
In 1944, Eugene was born. Pamela followed in 1947. Teenage rheumatic fever left Marie with lifelong heart trouble and, for a time, made it seem there would be no more children.
However, despite doctors' warnings, Ravell was born in 1954, Jan Marie in 1958, Connie in 1961, and Tomm in 1965. Marie's son Tomm died in a motorcycle accident Oct. 19, 1983 and her husband, Spencer died in a snowmobile accident Jan. 2, 1993.
On Aug. 20, 2011 Marie took a fall in her own bedroom and broke her ankle. In spite of care received by her children, her grandchildren, and various medical professionals, her health declined. She passed away peacefully just before noon on Sept. 27, 2011, reuniting on the other side of the veil with her mother, her father, her beloved husband Spencer, and wonderful son Tomm, and other dear friends and relatives who preceded her .
Marie always demonstrated a firm testimony of the truthfulness of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. She enjoyed studying history and principles. She had a spiritual conviction of its truthfulness and was unwavering in her adherence to principles of devotion, integrity, and service. She attended meetings regularly and visited the temple frequently. She taught her children accordingly.
She served with dedication in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society, and Sunday school organizations.
Together she and Spencer served two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-one in Canada and the other in Texas.
Marie is survived by two brothers (Raymond H Pead and Robert Dean Pead), five children, 22 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3, 2011, in the Afton LDS Stake Tabernacle.
