Loraine Junior
Wallentine
June 10, 1931 – March 19, 2025
Loraine Junior Wallentine returned home to his Heavenly Father and the arms of his sweetheart on March 19, 2025.
Junior was born on June 10, 1931, at the family homestead in Lanark, Idaho, to his parents Loraine Charles and Hazel Hymas Wallentine. His early years were characterized by the hard work and long days of a life on the farm. The family ran a successful farm during Junior's childhood; as an adult, he continued in the family business with over four hundred acres and more than one hundred head of cattle. Junior had a lengthy career hauling milk from the Bear Lake Valley to Cache Valley Dairy Co-op. Later in life, he returned to farming exclusively. Even into his 90s, he loved nothing more than to be out on his four-wheeler, supervising the running of the farm and chasing wayward cows.
As a young school child, Junior was introduced to poetry by none other than his future father-in-law and discovered a lifelong love for the beautiful words and profound lessons. He memorized dozens of poems throughout his lifetime and always had one ready to share in any situation. With these poems and his own personal wealth of knowledge, he constantly taught insightful life lessons to everyone around him–whether it was about finding a spouse, working cattle, playing sports, or navigating life's trials.
Junior married his sweetheart, Ruth Hulme, in the Logan Temple on April 1, 1955. Their marriage was blessed with nine children. Junior and Ruth made their home in Lanark, Idaho, where their children were raised in love and learned a strong work ethic. Junior was a lifelong faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities, including bishopric and high council callings. As a young man, he served a full-time mission in the Central States Mission. Years later, he and Ruth served a mission to the Palmyra New York Temple, as well as working and serving in the Logan and St. George Temples for several years. He often bore his testimony with a hymnbook in hand or memorized poem at the ready, once again finding beauty and knowledge in the words of poets.
Junior is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hulme Wallentine; a son, Brent Amos Wallentine; and siblings Darwin, RaNae, Margean, Darlene, Veon, Venoy, and Sterling. He is survived by brother Rao Wallentine and sister Bonnie Peterson; eight children, Mark (Freda) Wallentine, Bruce (Shelly) Wallentine, Ray (Laurie) Wallentine, Laura (Danny) Bills, Glen (Linda) Wallentine, Daren (Tricia) Wallentine, Amy (Travis) Peterson, and Mandy (Tracy) Park; forty-seven grandchildren; and ninety-seven great-grandchildren, with three on the way.
Viewings will be held at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary Friday, March 28, from 6:00-7:30 PM and at Liberty LDS Church Saturday, March 29, from 9:30-10:45 AM, prior to funeral services at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery.
