Linda Nye's Obituary

Linda Nye, 79, passed away on December 30, 2016 at her home in Pocatello, Idaho after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Linda was born on December 16, 1937 to Vivian James and Lula May Nye in Paris, Idaho. She graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1956 and continued her education at the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had a successful career in the banking industry. In 1997, she retired as the branch manager of US Bank in Montpelier, Idaho. She continued to work seasonally after retirement to keep her skills sharp.

While living in Salt Lake City, she married Paul Caldwell Stephens on January 5, 1963. They resided in Utah, California and Idaho. Together they had one daughter, Jamie and two sons, David and Guy.

After the passing of Paul, Linda married Boyd Preece on February 9, 1979. They resided in Soda Springs, Idaho. Together they had one daughter, Rebecca. They later divorced.

Linda's biggest joy in life was her family. She loved being near her children and grandchildren and devoted her time and energy to each and every one of them.

Linda loved gardening, spending time near the waters of Bear Lake, taking scenic drives and traveling with her sister Marlene. She will always be remembered for her strong work ethic, her wry smile and her cooking; especially her delicious Christmas Fudge. She made one batch with nuts and one without, and always remembered who liked which. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren looked forward to their annual birthday cards and special occasion cards with their $2.00 dollar bill tucked inside.

Linda is survived by her brother, Don Nye of Paris, Idaho, her sister, Marlene Humphreys of Boise, Idaho and her children, Jamie (Bart) DeCora of Afton, Wyoming, David Stephens of Auburn, Wyoming, Guy Stephens of Afton, Wyoming, and Rebecca (Dennis) Ramey of Pocatello, Idaho. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother, Wayne, her sisters, Helen, Verla and Donna.

Honoring her wishes, Linda will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Schwab-Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier, Idaho.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Access Homecare and Hospice in Pocatello, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
