Leona Lindsay
Leona West Lindsay passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Tuesday July 12, 2011, in Thayne, Wyoming. She was born October 12, 1917, in Farr West Utah, the fourth of seven children. Her parents were Ernest Edward West and Cora Bell Dabb West.
The family lived on a small farm in Farr West until 1933, when they moved to Star Valley, Wyoming. It was here that Leona met her sweetheart, Arthur Lindsay. He saw her in the post office, and told his friends he was going to marry that girl. They were married in the Salt Lake temple in June 1935. Together they had two children, LaMont, who died in a logging accident at the age of 23, and Vendetta Grimley, of Brigham City Utah, They purchased land in Etna, and built their home and a service station. They ran the service station together for 20 years and a mink ranch for 20 years. Leona and Arthur were also custodians for the Etna LDS Ward church and the Etna Elementary school for many years.

Leona was active in the LDS Church all her life, serving in many callings in the ward and stake. She worked in the Scouting program for 50 years, seeing many boys receive their Eagle Scout award. She was very proud of them. She received the Silver Beaver award from the scouting program. She also taught 4-H for 50 years, and loved teaching both girls and boys in leather craft, cooking, and sewing. She loved people and was always ready to give a hand to those in need.
She resided at the Legacy Home Assisted Living in Thayne, Wyoming, for the last five years. She brought love and laughter to those around her. She has six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, who are the joy of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and five brothers and sisters: Wilburn West, Glenn West, Erwin West, Lois Humphreys and Marie Merrill. She is survived by one brother, Morris West.
The family would like to especially thank the staff and friends at Legacy Home Assisted Living for the compassionate and living way they took care of her. We also would like to thank our relatives and friends who served her for so many years.
Funeral services were held July 20, 2011, at the Etna LDS Church. Interment was in the Etna Cemetery.
