Janis Hudgens
Janis Blodgett Hudgens, our mother and grandmother passed away on July 3, 2011, surrounded by her children, following years of chronic lung disease. Though her battle was hard fought, she lived her life of 80 years doing many of the things she enjoyed, with the most important of all, spending time with her family.
Janis was the middle daughter of Carl and Lila Blodgett. She was born Feb. 10 1931 in Ogden, Utah. She grew up in North Ogden. She married Winton Hudgens, on Feb. 19, 1947. Winton preceded her in death in 2005. Together they raised five children.
Janis grew up and lived many of her years in North Ogden until she an Winton relocated to Afton, where she lived until her recent decline in health prevented her return. She attended North Ogden Schools as a child. She completed her high school education in 1977, after waiting 28 years, and did so traveling each week from Afton to Ogden to attend school.
Janis loved to travel and see all the wonders that the world had to offer and never let any travel slip by. She loved to be outdoors working in the yard. She loved to crochet and tie quilts, and her family members all have articles of her talent in their homes.
Janis loved to be involved in most anything and gave of her time freely. She had the pleasure of the love, support and companionship of her childhood girlfriends that we call "the cub girls", who have met for over 50 years each month.
Janis loved to cook and took great pride and love in the meals and foods she prepared and shared with all. Janis was a great fisherwoman and fished the Salt River in Afton for many years. She knew all the great spots to sink the hook. She participated on many women's bowling lieagues both in Ogden and Afton. She loved to camp and bike and did so frequently with her family.
Janis was always active and willing to do most anything. She had the biggest heart, and sharing and helping were her greatest gifts to others.
Janis was always involved in many women auxiliaries including the Jr. Old Timers (Railroad), Country Woman, and many others. She was involved in many civic and church opportunities to serve. She was a member of the Osmond, Wyoming LDS Ward.
Janis is survived by four of her children; Barry Hudgens of Afton; Christine Midget (Larry) of Smithfield, Utah; Lynn Hudgens (Melica) of Heber City, Utah; and Janna Adler (Rodway) of Stansbury Park, Utah; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and her brother, Gary Blodgett (Jan) of Bountiful, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winton; son Steven; her parents Carl and Lila and her sister Jean Shaw.
