Janice Faye (Storms) Jones's Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Janice Faye Storms Jones, followed her husband Alyn and returned to her Heavenly Father's arms on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

Janice was born in Idaho Falls, ID on August 26th, 1934. She was the first of four children born to Ellis and Florence (Backlund) Storms. She grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1952.  During her childhood years, Janice loved to vacation in Island Park and Yellowstone with her family.  Being the only girl in the family, she was always trying to keep up with her rambunctious brothers whom she loved very much. Despite her mother's wishes to keep her indoors to help with the cooking and cleaning, Janice much preferred to be running around with the boys! During her teenage years, she worked at the local movie theater and always saved some money for Christmas to make sure her brothers received extra gifts. Janice was very popular in her teenage years, she was elected as the Harvest Queen her senior year of high school and could be found cruising around town in her friend's 49 Ford Convertible.

After Janice graduated from high school, she moved with some of her best girlfriends to Salt Lake City.  She went with the intention to only stay in Salt Lake for a year, but life had other plans for her. In November of 1954, she met the love of her life Alyn Jones through his best friend Howard. Howard set them up on a blind date, and Alyn was immediately smitten. Howard was then introduced to Alyn's cousin Barbara, and as luck would have it both couples were engaged on New Years Eve 1955. Alyn and Janice were married on April 2nd, 1955, in Menan, Idaho, and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles LDS temple on May 22nd, 1957.

Alyn and Janice moved to Lancaster, California after they were married in 1955, where he started his career at Northrop Aircraft. They enjoyed their newlywed years in California before settling down in Kaysville, Utah in 1959 and starting their family. It was there that they welcomed their children Mark, Christine, Carrie, and Lisa.

While raising her four children, Janice loved to bake and was famous for her cinnamon rolls and her homemade fudge that she made every year at Christmas. She loved to spend time in Idaho Falls visiting her family, where they continued to make fun memories with her brothers and their wives and kids.  Once her kids were all in school, Janice started working at JCPenney where she enjoyed helping people do what she did best - shopping! During her time at JCPenney's, she made lifelong friends who she kept in touch with until her final days.

Janice spent her remaining years in Fruit Heights, Utah. There was nothing she loved more than meeting up with her daughters and friends to go shopping and out to lunch, followed by a stop at See's Candies.  You could always count on finding a box of chocolates at her house at any given time! Alyn and Janice loved their annual trips where they would meet up with Alyn's veteran's group, each year in a different city across the US. Alyn and Janice also served in the Bountiful LDS temple for a number of years together.

Janice is survived by her children, Mark (Carla) Jones, Christine Clark, Lisa (Scott) Douglass, and her brothers Rulon (Judy) Storms, and Dennis (Kathy) Storms. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband Alyn Jones, daughter Carrie Sheldon, son-in-law Ken Clark, brother Robert Storms, and her parents Ellis and Florence (Backlund) Storms.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, at 12:30 pm, with the viewing beforehand starting at 12:00 pm at the Schwab-Matthews Mortuary on 702 Clay St. in Montpelier, Idaho.  Janice will be laid to rest in the St. Charles Idaho cemetery alongside her husband Alyn and her daughter Carrie.  Janice's family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Bear Lake Manor Assisted Living and Bear Lake Memorial Skilled Nursing Facility for all their care and support in her final days.
