James Warren Jensen, 71, of Fish Haven, Idaho, passed away on August 26, 2026, at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.

He was born November 9, 1954, to Dewey E. and Cloree Smedley Jensen, the youngest of their three children. He was raised in Fish Haven and farmed all his life on the same ground his father and grandfather farmed. He graduated from Ricks College where he studied mechanics. For a number of years, he helped care for his widowed mother.

James and Setsuko Makino found each other later in life and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 28, 2019. They traveled to Japan together twice. He enjoyed exploring the country and getting to know her family.

Besides farming, he worked maintenance at the Bear Lake Golf Course and did some construction and mechanic work on the side. He also maintained several cabin lots on the lakeshore. He had recently started an excavating business.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a tour guide at the Paris Tabernacle. He and Setsuko went to the temple every week, usually on Thursdays, to do proxy work.

On the 2nd of July, he was life-flighted to LDS hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. After two emergency surgeries, he spent 56 days valiantly trying to recover. On August 19th, he had a cardiac arrest and passed away a week later.

He is survived by his wife, Setsuko; his brother, D. Brent (Jerri) Jensen; his sister, Denise (Sid) Page; many nieces and nephews; and Setsuko's mother, sister, and brother-in-law in Japan. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family expresses their deep appreciation to the neighbors and friends who have helped James and Setsuko over the years — and who, these last months, helped Setsuko keep the farm going.

They also thank the staffs of Bear Lake Memorial Hospital, LDS Hospital, Heritage Park Rehabilitation Center, and McKay-Dee Hospital for their care of James.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 3, at 1:00 p.m. at Fish Haven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Schwab-Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
