Obituary

On July 21st, 2026 James Arthur Francis was lovingly reunited with his wife, parents, & sister in heaven. He passed away in the Salt Lake Valley after a long battle with addiction.

Jim, as he was most known, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 12, 1966 to Shirley (Francis) Nelson & William Francis with two older siblings, John Francis & Susan (Francis) Smith who he admired deeply. He was the proud father of Christian (Grace) Francis, Zachary Francis, Aubriel (Branson) Bishop, and Cameron Francis. He was thrilled to be a new grandpa to Benjamin Bishop. He married his love Amy (Wanlass) Francis April 2, 2021. They were together through thick & thin with unconditional love.

He attended Olympus High School where he was a star athlete in skiing, football, & arm wrestling. Upon graduation Jim joined the Marine Corps where he worked as a radio technician in Okinawa & was deployed to Korea. He was very proud to have honorably served for his country & loved that his son Zachary followed in his footsteps.

Jim worked for several decades as a talented carpenter and cement mason, even owning his own company for a time. He used those skills to remodel his home which he greatly enjoyed doing. His skills were something to be admired as he took great pride in his work.

He enjoyed spending his time biking, skiing, boating, & gardening. Anything that could get him active outdoors was his activity of choice. He made many fond memories with loved ones through these experiences.

He was proceeded in death by the love of his life, his wife Amy Wanlass, his parents Willam Francis, Shirley Nelson and his sister Susan Smith.

He is survived by his children, grandson, his brother John, his step-parents Linda Francis & Larry and Darlene Nelson, his nieces and nephews, and many cousins & friends.

He is deeply loved & will be greatly missed by many.
