Hilda Margaret

January 21, 2017
Hilda Law passed away in Montpelier, Idaho on January 21, 2017, at age 93.
Hilda Margaret Pomeroy Law was born on May 23, 1923 in London England. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert Pomeroy and Clara Elizabeth Barton; three brothers, Albert William Pomeroy, Ronald Pomeroy, Bernard Victor Pomeroy, and one sister, Irene Francis Pomeroy Levy. She is survived by three sons, Ronald (Jolene), Wayne (Napua), Roger; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and a sister-in- law, Beth Woolstenhulme, along with many nieces and nephews.
Hilda was the youngest of five children. She had one sister and three brothers. As she grew up in England, she liked to listen to classical music, opera, and the mellow music of the time. She also liked to knit and enjoyed the game of cricket and had always dreamed of becoming a ballerina. At age of 6 she started school and at age 11 went on to an all-girls' school. During World War II, Hilda worked different jobs to help support her family. She and her family lost their home and possessions during the bombing of London. She met her husband, Don Law, a US serviceman from Montpelier, Idaho, at a dance. They were later married March 7, 1944, in London. In September of that year, Hilda travel to America by herself as one of the first twelve GI brides from England.
Hilda experienced a tremendous cultural shock going from London, England, one of the world's largest cities, to the small rural Idaho town of Montpelier, but she made friends easily and adapted quickly. Following Don's return from the war, they lived for a time in Utah and California before returning to Montpelier in 1960. In 1961 Hilda was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and from that day forward she was a very devout and faithful member. The hallmark of her life was her love for the Savior. She enjoyed working on her genealogy and family history. She felt it was very important to know who your ancestors are and ensure that their work was done.
Hilda's 19 year marriage, which produced three sons, ended in a divorce in 1963. Later that same year at age 40, she went to high school for a year to complete her schooling and in 1964 she received her GED and started working for First Security Bank in Montpelier. She worked at the bank for 26 years and got to know just about everybody. All those who knew her, enjoyed her sunny and cheerful disposition and friendly attitude. She was a lovely lady, interesting and delightful to talk with.
Hilda loved her family, neighbors, and friends and enjoyed visiting with them. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and sing. It seems that everyone has a special story to tell about Hilda. She touched many lives in so many special ways. She was an amazing woman who was able to live a long and full life.
