Herbert Franklin Cleary, 71, passed away peacefully January 23, 2016, at home, of natural causes, with his wife by his side.
Herb was born February 23, 1944 in Stellarton Nova-Scotia, Canada to Clarence Cleary and Pearl White. Herb moved to the States to attend BYU and Montpelier is where he met his beautiful wife, Sheila Wood, where they were married in 1965. They brought three children into their marriage, two sons and a daughter.
Herb served three years as a military police in the Vietnam War and loved his country and what it stood for. He worked at Monsanto for over thirty years, where he retired. He played hockey and loved to play baseball and was on team DJ's for years. He liked football games, fishing, hunting and took a lot of pride in his yard work. Herb and Sheila moved to Mesquite, Nevada and he worked as a security officer, which he loved. They later moved back to Montpelier to help with family and here they stayed.
Herb took most pride in his family; his wife Sheila, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. His real pride came when Peanut (Payton) was born; she was grandpa's girl.
Herb is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister; Lauretta Jean and his parent-in-laws, Charles and Margie Nicholls.
Herb is survived by his wife Sheila Cleary of Montpelier, his children Ryan Cleary of Aurora, Colorado, Travis (Tonia) Cleary of Montpelier and Kellie (Paul) Wilson of Montpelier; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Barbara) Cleary of Stellarton Nova-Scotia, Canada; his sisters Helen (Angus) MacDonald of Thorburn, Canada, Gloria (Harold) MacLeod of Springville, Canada, Roberta (Fielding) Smith of Springville, Canada and Debbie (and the late Alan Muir) of Stellarton Nova-Scotia, Canada; along with many nieces and nephews.
