Glenn Bartschi's Obituary

Glenn Bartschi, 94, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his home in Montpelier.

He was born on May 29, 1923, in Georgetown, Idaho, to Frank Royal and Gwen Bacon

Bartschi. He grew up in Georgetown where he attended school, graduating from Georgetown High in

1941. While attending school, he enjoyed participating in sports, especially basketball where he was a star player.

After graduating from high school, he spent time working on the family sheep farm and then enlisted in the Army. He served in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge, and then was in the military police in Belgium and Germany. He was always proud of his service.

Later, Glenn met and married LaRae Liljenquist on November 24, 1951. They recently enjoyed 66 years of being happily married. Together they have four children, ten grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

During his lifetime, Glenn worked in many different capacities. Some places of employment were on the family sheep farm, the railroad, Monsanto, the Idaho State Highway Department, Walton Feed, and Rich Motor. Glenn and LaRae built the first laundromat in Montpelier, and also built and operated the Michelle Motel for several years. Throughout his life, Glenn enjoyed farming and ranching. He also ran a camp in Stauffer Canyon for underprivileged kids in the summers, and hunters and snowmobiling in the fall and winter. Glenn also enjoyed working as a right of way agent for the Foley Company and Northwest Pipeline until retiring where he still continued to ranch and raise cattle.

Spending time with his family and enjoying his children and grandchildren was always his favorite activity. He also enjoyed cutter racing, where he was an original member for the Rocky Mountain Cutter Association, horse racing, hunting, snowmobiling, golfing, and watching Jazz basketball. Glenn was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

Glenn is preceded in death by his father and mother, a brother Rex, and two sisters, Dorothy and

LaPriel. He is survived by his wife, LaRae, and his children, Marcia Wallentine, Hal Bartschi, Michelle Nelson (Paul), and Tammy Walker (Eric), and his ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at 12:00 pm in the Montpelier 1st and 4th Ward. The family will also receive friends at a viewing before the funeral from 10:00 am to 11:45 am.
