Gladys Marie
(Erickson) Michaelson
June 5, 1930 – August 12, 2024
Gladys Marie Erickson Michaelson passed away on August 12, 2024, in Montpelier, Idaho, at the age of 94 from the effects of dementia. She was born on June 5, 1930, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Swedish immigrants Emil S. V. Erickson and Sofia Elizabeth Wallin.
She was raised on the family farm in Moreland, Idaho, with her five older brothers and two older sisters. She graduated from Moreland High School in 1948 as the Class Valedictorian. She married Dale A. Williams on May 16, 1948. Five daughters were born to this union: Leesa, Bonnie, Shelley, Kristie and Denise. While she was raising her daughters, she had the opportunity to travel with Dale to some of his international work assignments in France, Morocco, Mexico City and Venezuela. They divorced in 1975. On Feb. 26, 1977, she married J. Alton Michaelson of St. Charles. They enjoyed many happy years traveling, fishing and boating on Bear Lake, and attending dances around the valley. Alton passed away on May 7, 1996.
She worked for many years as a teller at Tri-State Bank and later as an office manager for Dr. Noel Wolff until his retirement. She served as Fair Board Secretary and caretaker of the Allred Center for many years. She loved playing the piano and singing alto in church choirs. She served as Primary President, Laurel Advisor, Relief Society Chorister and loved doing family genealogy work. She served a mission in 2009-2010 in Tallahassee, Florida, and Salt Lake City, Utah, at the Genealogical Library for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved making Levi quilts with her nieces Elouise and Della. She was an early riser and walked 3 miles a day with her dear friend Ineda and other friends and neighbors.
She was known as "Grandma Mike" to all her family. Every year she hosted a "Grandma's Day" at her home in St. Charles for a reunion and a full day of swimming on Bear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her five brothers and their spouses, Glen (Ivy), Allen (Connie), LeRoy (Helen), John (Yvonne), Wallace (Diane), and her two sisters, Orla (Jim) Egbert and Verna Lewis, a brother who died at birth, and her daughter Denise Williams Olson.
She is survived by her four daughters and spouses; Leesa (Robert) Pearson of Eagle, Bonnie (Lynn)Lewis of Fish Haven, Shelley (Ken)Parks of Pocatello, Kris Carlsen of Pocatello, son-in-law Leif Olson, of St. George, Utah, 20 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
