Gayle (Eborn) Sorenson's Obituary

Gayle Eborn Sorenson received her long-awaited call home on the morning of February 6, 2025. She reunited with her dearest love of sixty-seven years in a great and beautiful reunion.

Born in Paris, Idaho to goodly parents, Harlan and Agnes Eborn, Gayle was the fourth of five children. She worked hard on her father's farm and property and learned to value that experience. In her teenage years, a young Keith Sorenson saw her, leaned over to a friend and motioned to the beautiful brunette. "I'm going to marry that girl," he promised. And on the eighth of August 1958, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.

As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Gayle ministered in many roles that allowed her to serve the Lord using her gifts. Gayle worked hard in church and at home, fulfilling her cherished roles as wife and mother to her nine children, despite the challenges she and Keith faced throughout their lives together, including losing their young infant son.

An expert seamstress, Gayle was known to always have a quilt project set up in the house under which either her children or grandchildren loved to play. Her children remember the homemade clothes she made for them and deeply cherish the wedding dresses she stitched her love into.

After serving a mission with her eternal companion in the Philippines, Gayle focused much of her time on her other passion: genealogy. A joy she shares even with some of her grandchildren. She loved her family and showing them how deeply she cared. Whether that be frying scones for her children, slow cooking a roast and potatoes for Sunday dinner, or cooking peach pies and joking with her son that he had to eat one whole—which he almost accomplished. She made their house a home, filling it with her own nearly uncontrollable laughter as she talked with her family members around the dinner table.

Her greatest wish was to be surrounded by all of them in the celestial kingdom, rejoicing in the mercy and glory of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her children, Koreen Robinson, Ellen Kowallis (Kim), Shari Larsen (Mike), Judy Hyde (Latt), Robert Sorenson (Traca), Leith Sorenson (Kari), Jonnet Peterson (Dustin), and Martin Sorenson. She's the beloved grandmother of twenty-three grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren with two more on the way. In addition to her loving parents; her son, Preston; and her eternal companion, Keith; Gayle is preceded in her call to return home by her brothers; JT, Byron, and James; her sister, Afton; and son-in-law, David Robinson.

The family will receive friends for a viewing from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday March 7, 2025 at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay St, Montpelier, ID 83254 and from 9:00 am – 10:45 am on Saturday March 8, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 132 Church House Ln, Bern, ID 83220.
