Floyd Raymond Lewis, age 95 gently slipped away on September 26, 2016 at the Bear Lake Skilled Nursing Facility in Montpelier, Idaho.
Floyd was born March 9, 1921 to Raymond Tracey and Ruby Poulsen Lewis in Paris, Idaho. He helped his family during the depression by working several jobs. He attended Emerson Elementary School and graduated from Fielding High School. During this time he sang with the glee club and later played drums in Hugh Shepherd"s orchestra and sang there also. His love of music has continued throughout his life and he sang for many years with the Men of the Valley Choir and other choirs.
He married Twila Moser on September 2, 1941 in the Salt lake Temple. They lived in California for awhile where he worked at Lockheed Aircraft. He also served in the Army Air Corp. during World War II. They returned to Paris and built their home there. They have one son, Brent (Wenda) Lewis and three daughters, Diana (Delar) Cheney, Donna (DeLoy) Passey and Laurie (Richard) Price. They also had two Indian foster daughters and hosted an exchange student from Australia.
Floyd worked with Charles Rogers, painting many homes and buildings in the valley, including the tabernacle, the courthouse, Bear Lake Memorial Hospital and several of the LDS ward buildings. Later he worked for the post office. He started working for the Forest Service, August 19, 1957 and took lots of training classes. He worked with the Youth Conservation Corp. and received the Outstanding Service Award from the Forest Service. He was commander of the American Legion and Lions Club president and secretary for many years. He served on the hospital board and as chairman of the board at the senior citizen's center and on the area OASIS. He served in many church positions including bishop of Paris Second Ward and a high councilman. He served for many years as the financial clerk in the Paris Idaho Stake. He was active in scouting and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award.
Twila passed away July 9, 1991. To keep busy he volunteered at the pre-school in Paris and worked at the Logan Temple as an officiator. He married Connie Shepherd on January 1, 1993 and added six stepchildren and lots more grandchildren and great grandchildren to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, her children and grandchildren. His four children and their spouses, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and one great great great grandson. His brother, Keith Lewis and sisters, Norma Christensen and Flora Bird.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Twila, sons in law, Steven Robert Grunig and Raymond L. Williams, a grand daughter, Tracie Lyn Lewis, a grandson, Eric Allen Lewis, his step daughter, Molly Backus and several of Connie's family members.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 3 at the Paris Ward at noon with a viewing from 10:00 am to 11:45 that morning. A viewing on Sunday evening from 6 to 8pm with be at the Schwab-Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay St. Montpelier, Idaho.
