Duane Boyer Johnston
Duane Boyer Johnston, 82, passed away on June 26, 2012. He was born on Sept. 17, 1929 to Fern and Glen Johnston in Neocho, Mo. Duane graduated from Lincoln County High School in Panaca, Nev. He married Mary Ahlstrom on June 17, 1956. Duane served in the U.S. Navy until 1954. He spent the majority of his career as a Civil Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. His work moved him from Nevada to Ogden, Utah, where he lived with his family until his retirement. After he retired, he spent most of his time in Star Valley, with his wife, Mary, up until the time of her death in 1995. He was very active in many social and community events and loved playing cards and golf with his fiends in Star Valley. In 2002, Duane was fortunately to be able to re-connect with his long time friend, Jacqueline Cook. They spent the last years traveling, playing bingo/slots and being constant companions to each other. They split their time between Mesquite, Nev., and Star Valley. Duane was an avid collector of railroad memorabilia, particularly Railroad China. He enjoyed selling and trading and attending railroad memorabilia shows and loved eBay. Duane loved a deal. There wasn't a garage sale that he didn't like. Duane also had a huge love of music and played banjo in a band in Star Valley, where he loved to play. His three grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was so proud of their accomplishments. He was also a member of the Gold Spike Masonic Lodge Number Six in Ogden and the VFW in Mesquite, Nev. He loved spending time with all of his extended family. Duane is survived by his three children, Craig Johnston, Lee Johnston and Maureen (Christopher) Andrews. He is also survived by this three grandchildren, Alex Andrews, Michael Johnston and Katherine Johnston, as well as his special companion, Jacqueline Cook. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, parents, and a son, Brent Michael. A?memorial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Star Valley Ranch Pavilion, next to the swimming pool. A program and refreshments will be provided. If you were honored to have known Duane, the family would love to see you there.
