Derrell Wayne
Snider
October 4, 1947 – November 12, 2025
Derrell "Du y" Wayne Snider was born on October 4, 1947, in Upland, California, to Ralph and Pearl Snider. He enjoyed what he described as, an idyllic childhood with his parents and older brother, Don, in the close-knit dairy community of Chino, California.
Derrell graduated from Chino High School, Cha ey College, and Cal Poly Pomona, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences. Later in life, he continued his love of learning by completing a Master's degree in Teaching. In 1967, Derrell joined the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably for five years during the Vietnam War, both in active duty and in the reserves. His time in the military sparked a lifelong passion for aviation, eventually leading him to earn his Light Sport pilot's license.
Derrell first married Lucy Lee, and the pair were blessed with two wonderful children, Andrew and Elizabeth.
In 1981, Derrell re-married Suzanne Mingee and together they welcomed five beautiful children: Joe, Tim, Sara, Danielle, and Tom. Derrell and Suzanne happily just celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.
Derrell devoted 35 years to public education, serving as a teacher, independent studies coordinator, and principal in the Upland School District. His dedication and compassion for his students earned him the distinction of California Teacher of the Year in 1997.
Derrell had a deep love for music and, along with his high school friends, formed a band called The Revellions. His passion for music grew throughout his life and became a cherished gift he passed on to his children. Music filled the Snider home with joy and connection, as the family often gathered to sing and play together.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Derrell found joy in serving others and was known for his kindness and generosity. The Snider home was often a place of refuge—welcoming anyone in need of help, encouragement, or simply a listening ear.
After 25 years in Lake Arrowhead, California, Derrell and Suzanne retired to fulfill their lifelong dream of living by the water, settling on the western side overlooking beautiful Bear Lake, Idaho.
Derrell passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of November 12, 2025, in his favorite chair overlooking the lake.
He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne; his seven children— Andrew, Elizabeth, Joe, Tim, Sara, Danielle, and Tom—and eleven beloved grandchildren. Derrell's light, laughter, and love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
