Darrell H
Sorenson
July 5, 1932 – March 17, 2025
Darrell H Sorenson joined the love of his life Merlyn, on March 17, 2025, with a celebration in heaven with loved ones who passed before him.
Darrell was born on July 5, 1932, to Russell Sorenson and Elna Mae Hansen. He grew up in Ovid, Idaho where he also was living at the time of his passing.
Darrell loved sports and especially football and softball. He was a star running back during his high school years earning a scholarship to Utah State University where he played until he had to return home to help his father with the farm. He also played softball and was well known for his speed of running the bases. He was a loyal BYU fan having season football tickets for many years.
Darrell met the love of his life, Merlyn Pugmire, at high school when he was a senior and she was a freshman. They fell in love and were married May 22,1953 in the Logan temple. Darrell joined the army soon after and served his country with honor. He was proud of his service and a very patriotic man who loved his country. Darrell loved Bear Lake County and loved to serve. He was one of the first volunteer EMT's with the ambulance service and was also one of the original members of the Bear Lake County Search and Rescue which we knew as the "Jeep Patrol". He spent most of his vacations and weekends helping to patrol the campgrounds and the beaches of Bear Lake.
Darrell was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had many callings in the church and he and Merlyn served a mission to Arcadia, California. He also served as a worker in the Logan Temple for 12 years. Darrell and Merlyn loved each other and their family fiercely. Family was everything to them.
Darrell is survived by 3 children. Elna Gay (Rick) Jackson of Mesquite, Nevada, Richard Darrell (Maureen) Sorenson of North Logan, Utah, RaNae (Rick) Roberts of Paris, Idaho. He has 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Merlyn, his parents, his three brothers, 2 grandsons and 1 great grandson.
Darrell was a quiet and humble man with few words but when he spoke you listened. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 22nd at 11 am in the Paris Stake Center. A visitation with the family will be at 10am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Ovid cemetery with military honors.
