Clayton Ray Stauffer was born May 18, 1946 in Montpelier Idaho to Almira (Collings) Stauffer and the late Ray Virgil Stauffer. He died September 7, 2026 in Salt Lake City Utah. 

His summers as a child were spent in Kansas working on the family farm with his paternal grandparents. He shared many memories and loved his time there. James Hawkes married his mother and was a wonderful parent to Clayton. He would laugh about Clayton taking apart everything in the house, and reminded his mother, at least he wasn’t out getting in trouble. He married LaRue Booth on June 3, 1966 in the Logan Utah Temple. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. 

He started working in the Novelty movie theatre at the age of 11, working as a projectionist. He gained a love for the business that lasted his lifetime. He attended Paris High School and graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Weber State College. He started his own movie theatre supply business, CLACO Equipment. He was well respected in his trade and considered an expert in his field. His sons continue that business today. 

He built his own cabin in his beloved Bear Lake and would go to the cabin any chance he could. He enjoyed snowmobiling. He restored Model A Fords and was a member of both the Salty A’s and the Model A Club of America. 

He is survived by his wife, LaRue, brother Alan (Stephanie) Hawkes, and sister Carol Ann (Antonio) Velardi. His children, Nicole (Eric), Ryan, Mark (Maggie), and Ashley (Thomas). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Keilee, JeKobe, Erin, Jameson, Emily, and Lincoln and three great grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be held at the St. Charles Cemetery in Bear Lake, Idaho Friday September 18th at 1:00pm. Viewing to be held that morning from 11:30-12:30 at the St. Charles ward building. Services will be under the direction of Mathews Mortuary.
