Carma Mattson Jensen Small's Obituary

Carma Mattson Jensen Small, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend passed away surrounded by her family on September 14, 2014 in Montpelier, Idaho.

Carma was born to Leo James and Merle Bunn Mattson April 4, 1928 in Paris, Idaho. She spent her formative years in Paris, graduating from Fielding High School in 1946. She married Don K Jensen on May 5, 1947 in the Logan Temple. They made their home on the family ranch in Ovid, Idaho. They had six children: Alan (Wendy), Bruce (Rosemary), Laurie, Mark, Matt (Mary), and Scott (Joanne). They have 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

After Don's passing, Carma married Richard Thomas Small on November 8, 1985 in the Logan Temple. She became a second mother to his children and beloved grandmother to 50 grandchildren, 116 great-grandchildren and 11 great great-grandchildren. Richard's children: Nancy (Robert) Nilson, wife of the late Richard II Sally (Ron) Harper, Rodney, Samuel (Marilyn), Sidney (Delene), Brenda Cook, Rhea (Ralph) Nielson, JolLene (Andrew) Herzog, Stanley and Theodore.

Carma's most prized possession was her family. She loved reunions where she could enjoy all of her children and especially her grandchildren. She loved gardening and spending time in her flower beds. Reading and learning were a passion of hers. You would always see piles of books, journals and magazines surrounding her. She was a great cook by necessity, not by desire. She was a long-time member of the Bear Lake Rangers and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP). Richard and Carma were in the Fourth of July parades for many years, riding the DUP buggy, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Carma lived her entire life in the Bear Lake Valley except for a short period of time when she and Richard served a mission for the Latter Day Saint's Church in Camden, New Jersey. They also served in the Logan Temple for ten years. She held many positions in the Ovid and Liberty Wards, and the Paris Idaho Stake. She made many lasting friendships wherever she went. Everyone who met her came to love her. Whether it was a phone call, church, or a visit to her home, she truly demonstrated a Christ-like love, not only in words but deeds. She was very generous with her time, resources and spirit. Carma made everyone feel loved and special. She will be missed by everyone she touched.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don, brother Rex Mattson and sister Lawana Webb.
