Barbara Curtis Grandy's Obituary

Barbara Curtis Grandy, longtime resident of Montpelier, passed away on May 23, 2017 in Provo, Utah, of causes incident to age. She was born in Payson, Utah, on June 27, 1923, and grew up there, graduating from Payson High School in 1941. She then attended and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) in Logan, Utah, where she met and dated Grant Grandy of Paris, Idaho. Their courtship was lengthened out by Grant's military service during World War II, but when Grant returned from the Pacific theater toward the end of the war they were married for time and eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on July 25, 1945. They made their first home in Los Angeles, California, and then in Montpelier, Idaho, where they raised their family of six children.

Barbara was active in the LDS Church and had a wide circle of friends in the community. She taught for 28 years at the A.J. Winters Elementary School. Interested in the world, her open, adventurous spirit took her to Hawaii, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Israel, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy. At age 74 she served an 18-month mission in Houston, Texas, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is fondly remembered by those who knew her, particularly her children and grandchildren, all of whom enjoyed visiting her whenever they returned to Bear Lake Valley.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Grant, her parents Heber and Mary Anna McWilliams Curtis, her sister Maxine McMurdie, and many family members and loved ones with whom she is now joyfully reunited. She is survived by her six children, Curtis (Diana) Grandy, Paul (Brenda) Grandy, David (Janet) Grandy, Sheila (John) Matthews, Sherman (Kate) Grandy, and Norell Grandy, as well as 21 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Schwab Mortuary in Montpelier from 11 am to 12 noon on Saturday, June 3, 2017. The memorial service will immediately follow in the mortuary chapel. She will then be buried alongside her husband Grant in the Paris, Idaho cemetery.
