Obituary

Atheleen Gale Rasmussen was born April 24, 1935, in Bennington Idaho, to Ervin Christian Gubler and Inez Charlotte Pugmire. She grew up in Afton Wyoming and Boise Idaho but attended Montpelier High School and graduated in 1954.

While attending Montpelier High School she met Gary J Rasmussen and they became high school sweethearts. After graduating from Montpelier High School Atheleen and Gary were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 16, 1954. Together they welcomed five children.

Early in their marriage they lived in Montpelier Idaho and bought a home on Clay Street towards the mouth of Montpelier Canyon. Gary worked for the Union Pacific railroad but always worried his job would be replaced by a computer. Atheleen put a For Sale sign in yard of the home and initiated a move to Salt Lake City where Gary could attend the University of Utah.

After graduating from the University of Utah, Gary, Atheleen and family moved to Seattle Washington and Gary began his career with Boeing Corporation as a computer programmer. Atheleen loved to move and she encouraged Gary to accept many career changes resulting in moves to several cities within the state of Washington. These cities include Bellevue, Kirkland, Richland and Redmond Washington.

In 1970 Gary got a job offer in Salt Lake City and the family moved back to Utah. Eventually Gary went to work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Sanits and became a Director of Information systems for the Church.

After retiring from the Church, Gary and Atheleen served a mission for the Church in the New Hampshire, Manchester Mission. Gary served as a Counselor to the Mission President.

After their mission, Gary and Atheleen settled into retirement life, but that life was interrupted by Gary being diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma cancer. The cancer eventually took Gary’s life and he died in 2010. Since then, Atheleen has lived in Logan Utah, Hurricane Utah, Montpelier Idaho, Vineyard Utah and recently at Covington Care Center in Farmington, Utah where she was visited frequently by her friends and family. She died peacefully on September 29, 2026, surround by her children, grandchildren (21) and great grandchildren (40 with two on the way).

She was proceeded in death by her husband Gary J Rasmussen, her father Ervin Christian Gubler, her mother Inez Taylor, her stepfather Delbert Taylor, her brother Frank Taylor and her sisters Laura Ferguson and Sherrie Gubler. She is survived by all her children, Derk G Rasmussen (Linda), Mitchell J Rasmussen (Georgia), Sherrie Lin Sorge (David), Gregory T Rasmussen (Lisa) and Bruce Dee Rasmussen (Carrie) and her sisters Juile Williams and DeEtte Bastian, and her brothers Larry Taylor and Loy Taylor.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 10th at 11am in the St. Charles Ward building. A public viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30am.

Atheleen will be greatly missed but her family is very excited for her to be reunited with her sweetheart, Gary.
